THE TIMELY arrival of the police helped save two suspected lesbians from being lynched by an angry mob at Tafo, in Kumasi, on Monday evening.
One of the suspects, reportedly, resides at Tafo, whilst the other stays at a different locality in the Ashanti regional capital.
The one, who stays at a different part of the city visited her friend at Tafo in the evening of Monday, the police have disclosed.
While the two ladies were in their room, some people in the area started complaining about why the door of the room in which the ladies were staying was locked.
The incensed people alleged that the two ladies were lesbians and were engaged in lesbianism hence the closure of the door.
The Tafo Police Commander, Supt. David Amoako said, without any provocation, the people started throwing stones into the house of the suspected lesbians.
He said the police, upon hearing the news, quickly rushed to the place to help save the ladies from being physically attacked by the mob.
Supt Amoako said on radio that the police managed to save the two ladies and sent them to the police station, indicating that a policeman was even hit with a stone.
According to him, the police did not find any evidence that suggested that the two ladies were lesbians as the angry mob had alleged.
Supt Amoako said the police kept the two ladies at the station from that Monday evening till Tuesday morning to protect their lives.
