Man Arrested For Stealing At Awudome Cemetery

Kojo Braimah

A 35-year-old man, who is suspected to be part of a syndicate that has been stealing medals, relics and tomb stones at the Awudome Cemetery in Accra, has been arrested by the Kaneshie Police.

The suspect Kojo Braimah was in possession of 18 pieces of metallic sign posts at the time of his arrest.

The authorities have in recent times complained to the police about the theft of metallic sign posts erected on graves at the cemetery, among others.

Superintendent Francis Somian, the District Commander of the Kaneshie District Police Station said investigations revealed that Braimah and his cohorts had been stealing the items at the cemetery for some time now.

On February 16, 2018 at about 3am, the suspect entered the cemetery and stole metallic sign posts erected on the graves.

A resident, who saw Braimah, trailed him to Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Braimah could not give tangible answers so a police man passing by was called in to apprehend him.

The suspect was transported to the Kaneshie Police Station for further investigations.

The police realized that suspect and his gang usually sell the sign posts to scrap dealers.

Braimah, in his caution statement, said a friend asked him to fetch the sign posts for him.

He’s still in custody assisting in police investigations.
