Lawyer Naming Threatens Court Action

Lawyer Anthony Namoo

Newly elected Upper Regional Chairman and Lawyer, Anthony Namoo has hinted of a possible legal action to get some of his contenders to retract some allegations made against him during their campaigns.

According to him the allegations impugn on his legal profession for which he demanded a retraction from the sources of the untruths; failure to which he would resort to a legal action to redeem his professional image.

One of the party persons, he said, claimed that he has collected a sum of GH¢2000 from a client and abandoned the case.

Explaining the case, he said, it was a divorce case and the client and her husband had patched up and as a result there was no point pursuing the matter.

“Never in the history of this party in the region, have so many allegations been made against a candidate in a contest like this, but the results show that, the truth will always stand, as the motto of the Commonwealth says, and therefore, I’m sure the people will know that, next time around it doesn’t pay to go on the negative against a party member,” he noted.

Despite this, the newly elected Regional Chairman, has called for unity in the party, saying, “…we are one family and we are ready to work with everybody, and as a sign of the unity, I will invite all the contestants to a dinner,” he called.

Lawyer Anthony Namoo will be succeeding his friend and former “Boss”, the late Adam Mahama as the substantive Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, after his death in May 2016. Mr. Namoo takes over from the acting Regional Chairman, Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, who lost in his bid to become the substantive Regional Chairman.

The defeat of the acting Regional Chairman could be an indication that, his “brethren” from the Bawku Area – comprising Bawku Central, Pusiga, Tempane, Garu, Binduri and Zebilla constituencies had deserted him.

In the past, and per the number of Constituencies in the Bawku Area, they have had more people in Regional Executive positions and had a bigger voice in the affairs of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region.

Dignitaries at the venue included a former Upper East Regional Minister and businessman, Mahamin Salifu, Deputy National Organizer of the NPP, Alhaji Nuhu Mahama, Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari and Sulemana Yirimia, Council of State member.
