The victim the video tied to the bench
The Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have arrested one of the young men who were captured on video flogging a man tied to a bench.
According to police investigators, the victim was accused by the assailants of stealing Indian Hemp, popularly known as Wee at Abesim in the Sunyani Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region.
In the video, which went viral on 19th April, this year, some young men were seen severely flogging the victim.
Brong Ahafo Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Kinsley Oppong, told DAILY GUIDE that after the video went viral on social media, the police in Abesim investigated the issue thoroughly.
“Consequently the victim was identified through our investigations and invited to the office but he refused. We managed to convince him that it was for his own good. He finally agreed and came. He told us the guys accused him of stealing their Wee.”
According to him, he was asked to buy another stuff to replace the one he allegedly stole.
“I refused and so they subjected me to severe beatings to put the fear of God in him.
The police said:“He gave us the name of one of them and we proceeded to arrest him. The rest are on the run.
“We do not want to put their names out because we are still pursuing them. People, especially those who had the opportunity to watch the video, particularly from Abesim should volunteer information to help us track them. Nobody can take the law into his or her hands and beat anybody. All stealing and assault cases should be lodged with the police to take action,” he added.
“We would process them for court after their arrest. They are about 10 in the video and the victim is helping us to arrest them.”
