General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, has called on workers to change their lackadaisical attitude towards work so as to enhance work output in the country.

He said a prosperous country can only be built when workers desist from negative attitudes like laziness, lateness and indiscipline and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations at the work places.

This was contained in a speech read on his behalf at the 128 anniversary of May Day celebration in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.

This year’s celebration was themed, “Sustainable Development Goals and Decent Work; the Role of Social Partners.”

Dr. Baah commended the government for the 100,000 jobs being created across all districts in the country under the Nation Builders’ Corps programme that was launched earlier.

But said, “We appeal to the president to end the IMF programmes and lead the country to take control of the natural resources. We owe it a duty to demonstrate that we can indeed manage these resources efficiently and effectively.”

He pledged TUC’s support to ensure that the president’s vision of ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ is achieved as soon as possible.

“I therefore, believe that with hard work, dedication to duty and discipline, we can move this country forward and achieve prosperity for all Ghanaians by 2030.”

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, said government is working hard to ensure safe and clean working environment for workers across the country.

He said the current administration owes it a duty to ensure that workers go about their activities in freedom and deal with the menace of gender inequality and sexual abuse meted out to female workers.

Dr Letsa promised government’s commitment to tackle the root cause of poverty in the country by creating more convenient jobs under better working environment for workers.

Awards were presented to workers who distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties during the year.
