A FIVE-year-old girl has been successfully operated on by medical doctors to rectify severe burns on most parts of her body at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The complicated surgery was valued at GH¢ 8,000 and it was settled by Eunice Akoto Mansa Attakorah Manu, a female broadcast journalist in Kumasi in the Ashanti regional capital.
Attakorah Manu, who is noted for her generosity, has formed the Vida Victoria (VV) – a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) – which she uses to support needy people in society.
In the case of the burnt girl, Shakiratu Yakubu, the female broadcast journalist relied on her huge popularity to solicit for funds to foot the bill for the surgery that was performed.
Attakorah Manu, who has huge followers on ‘Facebook’, a social media platform, solicited for financial support from her followers, which was used to pay for the surgery.
She disclosed that her friends on ‘Facebook’ managed to donate GH¢ 11,000 out of which GH¢ 8,000 was used to pay for the surgery while the remaining GH¢ 3,000 has been kept for the girl’s upkeep.
Attakorah Manu said young Shakiratu suffered from burns about two years ago and she was initially hospitalized in Wa until she was referred to KATH for a surgery because her parents could not afford the cost of the surgery.
She noted that upon learning of the young girl’s predicament, she quickly contacted her friends on ‘Facebook’ and they generously donated cash to help save her life.
