Private Hospitals Appeal For Blood

A UMABO member donating blood

Private health facilities across the country are appealing for voluntary blood donation to fill their blood banks.

The appeal, which was made by the administrator of Afrikids Medical Centre, Godfred Njindan, was to draw the attention of voluntary blood donors to private health centres.

Mr Njindan stated that private health facilities render the same healthcare services as the public ones, hence the need for blood mobilisation to enable them to discharge their duties.

He was speaking to some journalists in Bolgatanga after a blood donation exercise organised by members of the Union of May Borns (UMABO).

Mr Njindan commended the group for choosing the private facility, saying the gesture was timely, especially as the Upper East Region enters the rainy season.

In the past, members of UMABO used to donate blood and other health-related items to the Upper East Regional Hospital, but they had to their shift attention to the private sector this year because of the ongoing strike action by the medical laboratory scientists at the regional hospital.

The President of UMABO, Vincent Asigri, pointed out that the blood donation exercise formed part of the union’s contribution to saving lives in society and welcoming new members.
