Volta Police Reach Out To Public

Police speaking with the public

As part of measures to allay the fears of the public and to heighten their trust in the police, the Volta Regional Police Command has begun a campaign to constantly engage the public.

The campaign which began last week has seen the police interact with the public in schools, lorry stations, churches, markets, among other places.

The public interaction which follows recent police brutalities and misconduct is also an institutional measure to regain public trust in the Police Service.

Addressing some residents of Ho at the Ho Lorry Station, the Deputy Volta Regional Commander of Police, DCOP Francis Ebenezer Doku, gave the assurance that the Police Service would not shield any unscrupulous personnel of the Service because the police exist to protect and serve the interest of the public.

He therefore reminded all police officers to be guided by the ethics of the Service.

He warned that any officer who would be involved in any kind of undisciplined act or misconduct would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

However, he pleaded with the public to see the police as their friend and report any form of misconduct by any police officer, whether junior or senior rank, in the discharge of their duties.

DCOP Doku condemned the recent police brutalities in some parts of the country adding that steps were being taken to avoid the recurrence of any such incidents in the future.

He warned: “Those officers who are in bed with the criminals should back off or when they are caught, they will know that the country is ruled by laws.”

DCOP Doku called on the public to partner with the police by volunteering credible information which would go a long way to enhance effective crime prevention and detection in the country, reminding them that the fight against crime is a shared responsibility.

He said due to the fact that the police cannot be at all places at all times they need assistance from the public to eliminate crime from the municipality.
