North Dayi Police Station
The police in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region have benefitted from an ultra-modern police station to serve as the district police headquarters.
The police station which was funded by the North Dayi District Assembly was handed over to the District Police Command at a brief ceremony at Anfoega recently.
The project which forms part of government’s initiative to rebrand and make the Police Service a world-class one is estimated at about GH¢370,000.00.
The facility which residents have described as timely houses the office of the commander, charge office, office of station master, crime office and administrative office. It also has an armoury, a male and female cell and washrooms with a big compound.
Until this project was completed, the police were housed in a rented space which could not even pass for a police post, as it had only two offices without cells to house suspected criminals.
According to some officers in the district, the old facility was not fit for the purpose of effective policing as arrested criminals could not be properly secured.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Edmund Kudjoh Attah, indicated that security is a pre-requisite for peace and development hence the assembly’s resolve to construct the station to secure lives, business and property in the area.
He gave an assurance that adequate furniture and other logistics needed for effective policing would be provided to make the station one of the best in the region.
Mr. Kudjoh Attah who commended the contractor, engineers of the assembly and the project consultants from AESL for their technical support and cooperation, urged the police to take good care of the facility to ensure it lasts long. He noted that a good maintenance culture would motivate the assembly to give more support in the future.
The District Commander, DSP Hilarious Avornyo, who received the keys to the edifice, promised that the command would use the new station as expected and that his outfit would do its best to maintain the structure.
He was elated that the new facility would also increase its operations such that the era where some cases and criminals were transferred to Kpando would be a thing of the past. He pleaded with the police administration, the assembly and the government to assist with accommodation, vehicles and others logistics.
