Ohemaa Mercy
Celebrated Ghanaian gospel artiste, Ohemaa Mercy has urged her colleagues in the industry to use their music, brand and stage performances to promote the Ghanaian culture.
She said “If we don’t encourage the youth to learn about our culture and music, our traditions may disappear in no time. The youth will grow up without knowing what their culture is”.
Ohemaa Mercy, who has hosted number musical events in and out of the country, said she uses her music and stage performances to promote the teachings of Christ as well as Ghanaian culture.
“It is important for Ghanaian gospel artistes to promote the country’s cultural heritage by using their brand and music”, she said.
“It is rather sad to observe that whilst others have improved upon their cultures to make it more competitive and a huge foreign exchange earner, we have virtually subordinated ours to foreign cultures”, she added.
She also expressed concern that the tourism industry had done little to promote our local dishes in our hotels and restaurants, adding that, the introduction of technology to improve the processing of our local food must be considered.
Ohemaa Mercy however appealed to her colleagues to promote Ghana’s tourism sector by shooting their music videos at some of the tourism sites in the country.
According to her, the tourist board alone could not perform the task but needed the assistance of people like gospel artistes.
