MDS-Lancet Laboratory has handed over a renovated genito-urinary unit to the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) as part of their corporate social responsibility.

The renovation which cost GH¢100,000 include the replacement of floor tiles, painting and other electrical works needed to revamp the unit.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MDS-Lancet Laboratory, Dr. Paul Sekyere Nyantakyi, stated that the renovation is aimed at expanding the capacity of the unit to accommodate the patients and assist them recuperate after surgery in a more conducive and comfortable environment.

He added that they would continue to support the unit in terms of its proper maintenance.

Dr. James Mensah of the Urology Unit of the KBTH stated that the work of the unit includes dealing with diseases of the human genitalia system in women and men with prostate and bladder complications.

He explained that the high number of patients numbering 400, majority of which are men in Accra, are waiting to be operated on as a result of various urinary problems and prostate cancers.

Dr. Mensah thanked MDS-Lancet Laboratory profusely for their support to the unit.

He bemoaned the inadequate number of medical professionals at the unit, saying, “We have only forty urologists taking care of the nation with a huge population making it challenging in reaching the nations target of dealing with such diseases.”
