The Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong has led his outfit to donate 1000 furniture to the Tolon Education Service to aid teaching and learning.
About twelve schools in the districts are expected to benefit from the donation made by the Corporation.
The donation is as a result of an appeal made by the Regent of Tolon , Rt. Major Sulemana to the CEO of GNPC to assist the district with furniture to enhance Education in the district.
Dr. Kodua Sarpong speaking to DGN Online said this was the first set of furniture to be delivered as part of the Corporation’s promise to supply some 2000 furniture to the schools for the comfort of students in the district.
According to him, GNPC has resolved to ensure every Ghanaian benefits from the oil proceeds generated by the country, this they are doing by supporting the free SHS policy and investing in the educational sector across of the country.
Dr. Sarpong assured the district that additional 1000 furniture will be provided in the next three months to make it a total of 2000 furniture.
The District Chief Executive for Tolon, Madam Balchisu Yakubu thanked Dr, Sarpong and the entire GNPC Company for coming to their aid.
She disclosed that the district had a deficit of about 12000 furniture noting that the donation will help reduced the deficit in the various schools in the district.
Madam Balchisu called on other institutions, NGOs to come to the aid of the various schools in the districts indicating that Tolon distract has about 100 schools and will need an additional 10,000 to reduce the deficit.
In a related development, the GNPC handed over two boreholes to the Zoggu community in the Nanton district in the Northern Region.
The water project funded by the Company is to help tackle the water crisis in the Nanton district.
The Headmaster of the Zoggu Junior High School, Mr. Shaibu Alhassan Suglo thanked GNPC for the gesture adding that the donation will help improve teaching and learning as well as good hygiene.
He indicated that the parents can save money that was used to purchase soap to wash school uniforms for their wards for other needs of their children.
