A TOTAL of 194 foreigners have been deported to their various countries after being arrested in Ghana for allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities.
Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, made this known to the media on Thursday at the Information Ministry in Accra.
He was updating the nation on Government’s fight against illegal mining.
The nationals deported include Indians, Chinese, Nigerians and Malians.
According to him, the claim that only Chinese national, Aisha Huang, nicknamed ‘galamsey queen’ had been deported in exchange for the $2 billion Sinohydro deal was untrue.
He said Government had arrested a total of 400 galamseyers and 194 of them including Ms. Huang were foreigners and have been deported.
He said it was unwarranted for anyone to say the fight against galamsey was failing.
