Volta Minister Dr. Archibald Letsa presenting the citation to the former Goil MD, Patrick Akorli (Togbe Adza-Nye IV)
The immediate past Managing Director of Goil, Patrick Akorli, has been honoured for his immense contribution towards the development of the Volta Region.
The oil marketer, who is also a senior chief (Dutorfia) of Ziavi Traditional Area under the stool name Togbe Adza-Nye IV, was honoured together with two others, Major General Anyidoho from Tanyigbe Traditional Area and Lawyer Dzanku from Klefe Traditional Area, both in the Ho Municipality.
A citation presented in honour of Togbe Adza-Nye IV described him as a “True Man” who had “poured out his life into others” for their benefits.
The citation, which was presented at the grand durbar of the 2019 Klefe Yam festival, acknowledged that being a native of the Ziavi Traditional Area, Mr. Akorli’s philanthropic work across the country, especially in the Volta Region and Ho Municipality, was worthy of emulation.
Some of the noteworthy benevolence of the oil marketer who is a trained teacher and a chartered accountant include the construction of boreholes for Taviefe Senior High School, Lume, Akrofu and Dodome traditional areas.
He is known to be a contributor to the ongoing vocational school and clinic projects in the Klefe Traditional Area, and a major financier of the Ziavi Community Senior High Technical School (ZISTECH).
The school which is yet to be absorbed into the public school system is currently being heavily financed by Mr. Akorli, as he has granted scholarships to all 63 first-year students of the school. He has financed the school football team and other activities.
Besides, he has provided desks and teaching and learning materials to more than six basic schools in the Ho Municipality. He has been a regular donor to the Ho Municipal Hospital and the Ho Prisons.
Mr. Akorli later told DAILY GUIDE that “I hold dear education. That is why I support a lot of education-related initiatives irrespective of backgrounds.”
He appealed to well-to-do people in society not to hesitate to support the less privileged to become great future leaders.
