LPG Bottling Plant For Axim

A 64 acre of land has been acquired at Axim in the Western Region for the construction of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling refilling plant.

According to the Ghana Gas Company (GGC), all the technical designs and requirements have been completed.

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday cut the sod for the construction of the plant as part of his two-day working visit to the region.

The project is a unit of the cylinder recirculation module and will require an installation of LGP storage tanks, offloading points for LPG mobile trucks, maintenance building for testing of cylinders for both empty and filled cylinder bottles.

In addition, there will be an installation of fire water tanks, loading bay and parking lots for the LPG bullet truck.

There will also be an installation of automatic cylinder hub, which is designed to have an installation capacity of filling 2,400 cylinders per day.

Dr. Bawumia explained that the LPG bottling plant is a new policy from government that will help prevent most of the accident during gas distribution across the country.

“It could be recalled that some few years ago there was an accident at a gas station at Haatso in Accra which caused the death of some people,” he said, adding, “Thereafter government said we should find less risky way of distributing gas hence this concept of ensuring that this does not happen in the country again.”

“With the introduction of a lot of interventions by government, I will urge you to rally behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and to vote massively for them to retain power and continue its developmental agenda,” he added.

Robert Asmah, General Manager of GGC, explained that the project when completed would create direct and indirect jobs for the youth.

The chief of Upper Axim, Nana Edee, lauded government for a lot of developmental projects in the area.

He mentioned some of the projects as a sea defence wall, fishing harbour, stadium, creation of a cocoa district, DVLA, town roads, among others.

He urged authorities who would be in charge of the plant to employ a lot of indigenes in the area.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira, Catherine Abelema Afeku, commended President Akufo-Addo for honouring his promises he made to the people of Nzema East prior to the general election in 2016.
