Jeff Konadu Addo

THE New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region has announced that they are setting aside Friday, October 30, 2020 as ‘Elephant Day’ in the region.

According to the party, “The declaration of the Elephant Day is to showcase how grateful the people of Eastern Region and indeed, Ghanaians are to President Akufo-Addo and his government for the monumental strides in developing our societies through education, health, agriculture, industry and economy, sports, arts and culture among others.”

Regional Secretary, Jeff Konadu Addo, said in a news release that “it is expected that all corners of our localities, hideouts and every lane in our towns, cities and villages be decorated with party flags, paraphernalia and posters to showcase the unprecedented achievement of the NPP under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.”

He said “party faithful particularly executives at all levels and parliamentary candidates are encouraged to wear party attire and colours on Friday to mark this day and observe as such.”

“We wish, through this Elephant Day celebration, to remind all Ghanaians that the Akufo-Addo-led government has provided more relief and social interventions than any government since independence, and Ghanaians are grateful,” he added.

He said that “the FSHS policy has brought relief to parents and guardians across Ghana, and the Eastern Region is no exception.”

The regional secretary said that currently 216 school blocks and dormitories were under construction, 80 teachers’ bungalows being built, the Eastern Regional Hospital is commencing, a multipurpose sports complex at Koforidua and 13 district hospitals under construction at Akuapem Mampong, Aburi, Abetifi among others.

He also mentioned the Mpakadan rail network development, Kpong GS Retrofit Project, several road networks under construction and 23 1D1F being assisted for full operations that will lead to jobs for about 120,000 directly and indirectly, over 7,000 NABCO employees in the Eastern Region alone.

He said the December 7 election was not about who would win but rather “it is about who can transform our region and Ghana for generations to escape poverty.”

He said, “We are seeking to decorate Eastern Region with symbols of the Elephant with the sweet red, white and blue because we have come to the crystal conclusion that the Eastern Region stands to gain more with another Akufo-Addo term.”
