Kwaku Agyeman Manu
THE HEALTH Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, has charged the electorate to vote against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying that the opposition party will collapse the free Senior High School (SHS) programme, which has suddenly increased enrollment in schools.
The Health Minister, sadly, recounted how the NDC collapsed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), after winning political power in 2008.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Fomena, in the Adansi North District, the minister said the NDC was a great threat to the free SHS programme and other social interventions made by the NPP government.
According to him, the free SHS is making huge impact in the lives of many youth, therefore the NDC should not be allowed to return and collapse it.
“The NDC, prior to the 2008 polls, promised to introduce one-term premium payment for the NHIS policy, but they ended up collapsing the positive policy. The same NDC, after openly saying the free SHS can only be introduced in 20 years time, is now promising to manage it better than the NPP, which is a lie.”
He recalled that “the NDC left GH¢1.2 billion NHIS debt, an unfortunate development, which plunged the NHIS into a huge problem across the country.”
According to him, it took the intervention of the NPP administration, led by President Akufo-Addo, for the NHIS huge debt to be settled eventually.
The Health Minister said anybody who wanted the country to continue to be on the track of prosperity should cast their ballot for the NPP, saying “you will do great disservice to mother Ghana by voting for the NDC.”
