Suspect Shadrach Boakye, also known as Anopa, aged 24, according to the police, has led several attacks on commuters along the Achimota Forest and its environs.
“Shadrach has been on the radar of the Achimota Police for several months until he was arrested over the weekend at Fawuhoyeden in the Ahafo Region,” the police said.
According to the Achimota District Police Commander, Supt Christine Srofenyo, Suspect Shadrach has been successful in his ‘strike, hit and run’ efforts, making his apprehension very difficult.
Recounting some of his robbery operations, Superintendent Srofenyo said the suspect has been involved in countless robberies within the Achimota Forest enclave since 2019.
She made references to a case reported on June 4, 2020, around 10:30pm when Suspect Shadrach Boakye in the company of five others attacked and robbed four victims of their valuables such as phones, laptops, monies and other items at gunpoint.
“Another case was recorded on November 30, 2020, where the suspect again attacked and robbed several road users around the CP Roundabout.
“On June 14, 2021, Shadrach robbed a car dealer of his bag containing unspecified amount of money and vehicle documents at CP Roundabout.
“The complainant in this case was able to describe the suspect to the police and police highly suspected Anopa to be the culprit,” she said.
Supt Srofenyo said the modus operandi of suspect and his cohorts is to hide in the forest, monitor both vehicles and pedestrians and rob them at the least opportunity using sharp implements.
She indicated that four of the gang members have earlier been arrested but Shadrack managed to escape arrest and went into hiding in his village somewhere in the Ahafo Region.
His accomplices are on trial in court.
