Sunyani Records 55 Fire Cases

THE INCIDENCE of fire outbreaksĀ in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region appears to be getting worse, authorities at the Ghana National Fire Service has stated.

According to the second in command at the Sunyani Municipal Fire Service, DO3 Thomas Kofi Dzah,Ā the municipality, since the beginning of 2022, has recorded 55 fire outbreaks including 10 domestic, 21 bush fires, and one industrial fire in January of this year, bringing the total fire outbreak cases in JanuaryĀ alone to 32.

He explained that February, however, saw a decline in the fire outbreaks recording five forĀ  domestic,Ā  seven bushfires, two institutional,Ā  one commercial, and one vehicular making it 16Ā  outbreaks in February alone.

He said the month of March saw a further reductionĀ in the fire outbreak cases including two domestic, one bush, two institutional and two vehicular cases.

DO3 Dzah appealed to residents to be cautious in their handling ofĀ fire.

He particularly thanked God that in all the 55 cases recorded, there was no fatality. He revealed that the municipal fire command has only one fire tender but said in an emergencyĀ situation, they rely on Abesim and the regional sub-stations to support.

DO3 Dzar called for the immediate implementation of PNDC L 229, 1990 section 5 which enjoins assemblies to establish fire sub-committees comprising of some institutional representatives to come out with rules and regulations to control fire outbreaks in the municipality.

He told the DAILY GUIDE all efforts by his outfit to the assembly to have such sub-committee formed have failed.
