Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is seeking to be elected among the first 5 of the 10 presidential aspirants, has picked number 10 spot on the ballot while former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen picked number 2 at the balloting for spots yesterday at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Asylum Down headquarters ahead of the party’s Super Delegates Congress on August 26, 2023.
MP for Assin Central and businessman man Kennedy Ohene Agyapong picked number 1 slot on the ballot while former Minister for Railways and Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Joe Ghartey picked number 3 on the ballot.
Others include Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the NPP and Kojo Nsafoah, an energy specialist who picked 6 and 4 respectively, while former Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh picked the 7th spot on the ballot.
Three other presidential aspirants who were represented by members of their campaign team including former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto picked number 5, while Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku picked number 8 on the ballot, with Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko picking number 9 slot on the ballot.
A member and spokesperson for Presidential Election Committee (PEC), Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who spoke to journalists after the exercise, said the balloting exercise which preceded other deliberations was successful.
He said all aspirants agreed with the committee that the Electoral Commission (EC) was going to supervise the election while all other security arrangements would be taken care of by the party.
He added that the EC would be engaged to print all ballot papers while agents of the aspirants oversee to the printing of the ballot papers.
He said, “Notice of polls will be put out. Proxy votes has been agreed upon and notice issued, with deadline for all proxies on August 2, while the proxy list are furnished to all aspirants to ensure that the list of album are provided to all presidential aspirants.”
A former General Secretary of the NPP, Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and former Member of Parliament for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh as well as the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen expressed satisfaction with the entire exercise though in Francis Addai Nimoh’s view, positions on the ballots does not amount to anything in elections.
According to the Director of Elections of the NPP, Evans Nimako, the Special Delegates Congress to elect five aspirants will be held on August 26 followed by the National Congress on November 4 where delegates will subsequently elect the party’s flagbearer.
