I Carry Gun Because Of Hawa Koomson- Kasoa NDC Candidate

Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor

Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for Awutu Senya East, has made a startling revelation regarding her security measures in light of alleged threats received from Hawa Koomson, the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East and Fisheries Minister.

In an interview on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Ms. Okunor disclosed that she acquired a gun for self-protection against the incumbent MP, citing multiple instances during the 2020 elections where she was allegedly threatened by Hawa Koomson.

Despite reporting these incidents to the police, Ms. Okunor claims that no concrete action was taken, prompting her decision to arm herself.

Ms. Okunor stated, “When we go back into the 2019-2020 elections, Hawa Koomson pulled a gun on me on four different occasions. No arrest was done, no interrogations, no investigations, nothing.” She emphasized the necessity of self-defense stating, “There is the need for me to do that because I can best protect myself and not any other person against Hawa Koomson.”

The lack of police intervention in addressing the reported threats has fueled Ms. Okunor’s decision to take matters into her own hands regarding her personal safety.

In a separate development, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, along with two other individuals, Mustapha Mohammed, and Abdul Aziz Musah, was arrested by the Police at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region.

The arrests were made for unlawful possession of a firearm following a violent altercation at the Electoral Commission’s office in Kasoa.

During the incident, Ato Koomson, the son of MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, sustained injuries after being stabbed in the chest. Law enforcement apprehended the suspects onboard a Honda CRV saloon car with registration number GX-2044-19, where a pump-action gun with four rounds of ammunition was seized.

Despite the circumstances leading to Ms. Okunor’s arrest, she vehemently denied any involvement in the violent episode at Kasoa and maintained her innocence regarding the possession of the firearm.
