Africa’s cybersecurity giant, Cybervergent, is joining forces with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) to safeguard children online, supporting the innovative Child Online Protection Framework.
This initiative, unveiled by the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia as part of the National Cybersecurity Challenge 2024, aims to raise cybersecurity awareness among the youth, particularly students.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cybervergent, Adetokunbo Omotosho, highlighted the initiative’s importance, stating, “As more Ghanaians deepen their interactions on social media, expand e-commerce activities, and adopt the internet of Things to innovate and optimize enterprises, they are faced with increasing cybersecurity threats from cybercriminals seeking to steal and harm unsuspecting users.”
“Since our establishment, Cybervergent has led efforts to transform the cybersecurity landscape across Africa,” he stated.
Operating in key markets such as Nigeria and Ghana, with clients across Africa, Cybervergent protects businesses and organizations from the cybersecurity threats affecting the continent.
According to Adetokunbo Omotosho, this support demonstrates Cybervergent’s alignment with the Ghanaian government’s commendable efforts to protect the younger population from harmful online exposure through education on digital security and equipping them with the skills needed to safeguard themselves, their identities, and virtual assets.
“Indeed, as internet usage becomes increasingly widespread in daily life, the need to protect minors online has become critical,” he said.
The framework seeks to establish comprehensive policies, robust legal structures, and targeted public awareness campaigns that educate children, parents, and educators on how to navigate the internet safely.
By addressing the vulnerabilities young people face online, the framework aims to prevent child exploitation, abuse, and cybercrime.
Mr. Omotosho further indicated that Cybervergent’s support affirms the company’s commitment to the Ghanaian market, extending beyond providing world-class tech and AI-backed cybersecurity solutions to businesses and corporations.
“It is about supporting the government and other relevant authorities in addressing digital threats amid the country’s rapid technological growth,” he added.
