NDC Invectives Have No Limits

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their leaders have a certain mindset about politics. The leadership including its serial flagbearer, John Mahama, believe in just one thing; and that is insult anybody who disagrees with the NDC’s strategy, regardless of the person’s status in society.

Not too long ago, precisely less than a decade ago, three undisciplined members of the NDC, otherwise referred to as the ‘Montie Three’ launched a scathing attack on then Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Georgina Wood.

The trio, namely, Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, Alistair Nelson and Ako Gun were sentenced to four months and a fine of GH¢10,000 by the Supreme Court after they pleaded guilty to charges of contempt. And it is sad that as a people, we have accepted the claim by former President John Mahama that we are suffering from short memories.

Then President John Mahama, in a very dramatic twist of history and common sense, decided to remit the prison sentences handed to the three by the Supreme Court for threatening to kill judges on a local radio station, Montie FM. This unpopular decision said to be on the advice of the Council of State, the highest constitutional advisory body to President John Mahama, led to the release of the Montie Three in August 2016.

In very weird and bizarre explanations, the then Minister of Communications, Edward Omane Boamah, said John Mahama’s decision was in exercise of his constitutional powers under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution, adding that apart from the convicts having served part of their prison sentences imposed on them, they have also paid the fine.

We are determined to awaken Ghanaians to the evil intentions of the NDC in an election year.

Always unable to articulate any vision and strategies to the people in the NDC’s attempt to regain power, the party and its leaders, this time led by John Mahama with Asiedu Nketia in tow always try to use lies and Goebbelsian tricks to lead the voters astray.

The strategy of the NDC in 2024 has not been different from what John Mahama applied in 2016 and earlier.

This year, the NDC and its allies have tried various means to make the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) unpopular and thus create disaffection for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the presidential candidate of the NPP for Election 2024.

Since the advent of the hung Parliament, the NDC Minority with the support of Speaker Bagbin has tried severally to frustrate government business. Some of these tactics failed to bring the government on its knees with the resolute determination of the Majority, first led by Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and now Afenyo-Markin whose Chief Whip, Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri always whipped the Majority into action to thwart the negative plans of the NDC.

Again, the NDC went behind groups to fight the government for its failure to deal with the galamsey menace. When that also fizzled out, the NDC managed to secure the alliance of religious groups to protest against so-called government inaction against galamsey.

The NDC itself took to the streets to protest what it called the failure on the part of the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) to do a forensic audit of the provisional voters’ register.

Unable to withstand the cacophonous noise by the NDC, the EC opened the floodgates for stakeholders, especially political parties to interrogate the register, but again Omane Boamah led the NDC to expose the party’s incompetence when it comes to election management.

We invite our readers to reflect on the use of the clergy to determine the outcome of Election 2024, led by Owusu Bempah who has said on many occasions that John Mahama cannot be President again.

It is like anything that the NDC touches in Election 2024, even if it is gold, ends up becoming clay. The foundations of the NDC going into Election 2024 rides on a very lame horse, but rather than the team including experienced personalities like Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Mahama Iddrisu, Huudu Yahaya, and the Ahwoi Brothers helping to rescue the sinking NDC ship, they have also acquiesced to the use of insults to achieve their aim of “resetting” Ghana with an undefined 24-hour economy initiative in the unlikely event that John Mahama is voted back to power.
