GIS Preaches Peaceful Elections With Gala

Jubilant Senior Officers with the trophy aloft

In an effort to promote peaceful elections ahead of the December 7 polls, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) organised a football gala for its security personnel recently at the McDan Astroturf.

The event aimed to foster unity and advocacy for violence-free electoral process among the officers.

The gala featured an exciting match between senior and junior officers of the GIS. In a thrilling contest, the senior officers emerged victorious with a score of 3-1.

During the event, Comptroller-General (CGI) Kwame Asuah Takyi (Esq.) urged the officers to maintain political neutrality during the election period.

“I don’t want any of our officers to be seen engaging in political discussions in public or showing support for any party,” he stated firmly.

“We are an institution of fairness, and our role is to ensure security throughout the election.”

Asuah Takyi (Esq.) emphasised that officers wishing to enter politics should resign from their positions to focus solely on political endeavours.

In recognition of his exemplary leadership, Asuah Takyi (Esq.) was presented with a citation of excellence by the GIS Sports Unit.

Football legend Abedi Pele also graced the event, highlighting the vital role of the GIS in ensuring border security. He echoed the call for officers to adhere to the principles of the service, particularly during this crucial election period.
