Joyce Bawa Mogtari
Those who led the propaganda charge of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and still do, are not happy.
They are being paid back in their own coins and the never-forgetting internet is not helping matters.
We remember the heyday of NDC propaganda on the airwaves and social media with Ms. Joyce Bawa Mogtari playing an active role.
She was in an aggressive mode, spewing assortment of mendacious stuff with the objective of running down the political opponents of her party.
She offered supporting fire to the Sammy Gyamfi ‘Bawuliar’ project unapologetically.
Her attacks on the then Second Lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia were public knowledge.
Today, the heat is on her and her propaganda colleagues. She is not taking it lightly, her threats to turn to the courts offering a conversation topic for political commentators.
It is instructive that she and her party now want to turn to the courts to seek redress for what for them are defamatory contents. What is good for the goose continues to be good for the gander.
In any case, the Criminal Libel was decriminalised under the leadership of the then Attorney General and Justice Minister Nana Akufo-Addo for a purpose. It was intended to advance the cause of press freedom and not to stifle it.
The contribution of the decriminalisation of the said statute was hailed, and those who did have not regretted it in as far as democracy remains the most preferred form of government.
The judiciary appreciates the significance of press freedom and would not adjudicate in a manner that would be a disincentive to democracy and for that matter responsible free speech.
We say hallelujah that today, the NDC operatives appreciate the importance of the ‘unanimous SC’. May such appreciation be a sincere one and not a deceit.
Doesn’t Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia deserve plaudits for enduring the unprovoked attacks on his hard-earned reputation by power-seeking politicians, without blinking or even turning to the courts? He of course does and very much so.
Joyce Bawa Mogtari’s hatchet job for her party were scathing. She should not be irritated when her expensive designer handbag becomes a subject of discussion on social media because she paved the way for the invasion into her private life. Being a politically exposed person and with a proclivity for social media mischief, her counterparts in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would make minced meat out of her faux pas.
She has been prominent in the political project of the NDC – the so-called state capture.
Houses and cars have been bought by politically exposed persons in both main political parties in the country.
Mischievously however, some individuals have been isolated for verbal destruction in the media.
When a Toyota Avensis was bought by Joyce for a paltry GH¢14,000, the transaction would have gone unnoticed and therefore not attracting public discourse. Not when the purchaser was championing the state capture project mischievously.
Those who bought state lands cut across party lines. The hypocrisy of state capture and festooning same around the neck of one set of politicians does not stand the test of morality.
The recent sittings of the Appointments Committee of Parliament exposed them who lied about being morally clean and bereft of blemishes, yet bearing closets of depravity.
