Dignitaries unveiling the ‘Ghana Must Go’ official artwork
Playwright and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Globe Productions, Latif Abubakar, has unveiled a new theatre play dubbed ‘Ghana Must Go’ to woo potential investors to the country.
The play, which shows on May 24 to 25 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), is in commemoration of Globe Productions 15th anniversary of theatrical excellence, cultural service, and bold storytelling. It is expected to attract at least 2,000 potential investors and tourists in each host city, from Kenya, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US, UK, and Canada to Nigeria and South Africa.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, made a passionate appeal to stakeholders to support Globe Productions’ initiative, emphasising the importance of showcasing Ghana’s rich culture and heritage to the world, positioning the country as a premier destination for tourism and investment.
“Through the play ‘Ghana Must Go’, the ministry aims to tell a uniquely Ghanaian story that will inspire, educate, and capture audiences across continents,” she stated.
Madam Gomashie further urged Ghanaians to support the play by attending performances, bringing their families and colleagues, to promote Ghana’s cultural and economic initiatives.
“We’re leveraging Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to drive tourism and investment through immersive theatre. Our goal is to position Ghana as a premier destination for tourism and investment in Africa.
“To achieve this, we need your support. Attend and promote our events, such as the ‘Ghana Must Go’ play, to your families, communities, and business networks. Let’s work together to showcase Ghana’s rich culture and heritage to the world,” she urged.
Latif Abubakar, on his part, indicated that ‘Ghana Must Go’ is not just another play, saying, “It is the flagship theatrical experience of The Big Push Ghana Project, and a key feature of the Black Star Experience, an initiative by the Government of Ghana aimed at elevating our nation’s visibility through culture-driven investment diplomacy.”
He assured that the play would mobilise investors alongside showcasing Ghana’s rich culture, to promote tourism and investment opportunities.
“Ghana Must Go is the beginning of a global journey. With your partnership, we will use the power of theatre to open doors, build bridges, and bring investment home. This strategy transforms the traditional investment road show into a theatrical movement, breaking the boundaries between art and economics, culture and commerce, storytelling and strategy,” he said.
Latif Abubakar further stated that if Ghana can support the theatre business, “we won’t only be known for cocoa, gold, and oil, but also for world-class theatre, globally acclaimed music, and a thriving creative economy that generates jobs, tells our story, and drives GDP growth.”
He also noted that over the past decade and a half, Globe Productions has brought to life 19 powerful productions that have inspired, challenged, and entertained.
The launch was graced by stakeholders in the arts and culture space, notable among them included the Deputy CEO of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Abeiku Aggrey Santana, Actor Fred Amugi, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of Ghana Journalists Association among others.
