Woman Charged Over Boyfriend’s Acid Death

 Vera Asare and Daniel Omane

A 25-year-old woman, Vera Asare, has appeared before a District Magistrate Court at Koforidua presided over Nana Ama Depaa Fynn with a charge of manslaughter over the death of her boyfriend.

She has been accused of pouring acid on her lover, Daniel Omane, leading to his untimely death. The case has been referred to the Koforidua High Court for trial, and Vera will remain in police custody for two weeks before proceedings begin.

The family of the late Daniel Omane, who died on July 25, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after months of battling severe injuries from the November 29, 2024, acid attack, is demanding justice.

They are calling for full accountability from Vera, who allegedly carried out the act while Omane was asleep in his room.

Investigators said the couple had a turbulent relationship marked by frequent arguments and allegations of infidelity.

Vera reportedly moved in with Omane after the birth of their now three-year-old daughter. She was said to be jealous and often confronted women she suspected of being involved with him.

According to investigators, tensions escalated until Omane decided to end the relationship, which allegedly triggered the attack.

On the night of the incident, Vera is said to have entered Omane’s room and poured acid on him as he slept. His screams alerted co-tenants, who rushed to his aid and later handed Vera over to the police.

Omane was first treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Korle Bu, where he succumbed to his injuries months later. Vera was initially arrested and remanded but later granted bail to care for their child.

Following Omane’s death, she was re-arrested and now faces fresh charges, including murder. Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have secured an autopsy report from Korle Bu to support the case.

The Eastern Regional State Attorney, Emily Addo-Kyereh, has taken over the prosecution. The case has sparked public outrage in Koforidua and beyond, with family members, sympathizers, and friends of the late Omane storming the court in branded T-shirts to demand justice.

The Koforidua High Court is expected to commence the full criminal trial on October 13, 2025.
