THE TRADITIONAL processes for the selection of the 15th Asantehemaa has started inside the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, the paper has been reliably informed.
This follows the interment of the remains of the immediate-past Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III at the Royal Mausoleum in Breman on Thursday night.
According to reports, the Manhyia Palace doesn’t want the Asantehemaa’s stool, which is a significant stool in the Asante kingdom, to remain vacant for a long time.
In this regard, now that the 14th Asante Queen had been buried, the necessary consultations are said to be ongoing behind the scenes for the selection of a new queen.
Highly placed sources at the palace informed the paper that there are a number of competent and qualified female royals, one of whom would be lucky to be selected as queen.
According to the sources, the selection of the new queen, as it was done in the past, would be smooth, adding that the name of the new queen would be announced soon.
Significance Of Asantehemaa
The Asantehemaa stool is highly regarded and respected in the Asante kingdom, as the occupant of the revered stool is regarded as the mother of the entire Asanteman.
Traditionally, the Asantehemaa is the mother of the occupant of the Golden Stool, the Asantehene. She always serve as an adviser and able supporter for the king to succeed.
The Late Asantehemaa
Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, having been enstooled in 2017 in the Manhyia Palace, became the 14th Asantehemaa and she successfully reigned for eight memorable years.
She succeeded her biological mother, the 13th Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who was also the biological mother of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III left behind a rich legacy of being a peace-loving and development-oriented queen, who worked assiduously to make Asanteman better.
She is best remembered for her roles in improving healthcare and quality education for her people.
