Mané Sends Senegal Into AFCON Final

Sadio Mané celebrating his goal

Senegal booked their place in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Egypt in their semifinal clash at the Tangier Grand Stadium.

The Teranga Lions approached the contest with clear intent, naming a full-strength lineup against the tournament’s most decorated nation and quickly establishing control.

From the opening minutes, Senegal dictated possession and territory, creating a series of chances but finding Mohamed El Shenawy in inspired form as the Egyptian goalkeeper produced a string of saves to keep his side in contention.

Egypt, under the guidance of Hossam Hassan, struggled to gain a foothold in the match and were largely subdued in the first half as Senegal controlled the rhythm and tempo of play.

The pattern continued after the interval, with Pape Thiaw’s side maintaining sustained pressure in search of a breakthrough.

That decisive moment arrived in the 78th minute when captain, Sadio Mané, delivered the winning strike, once again proving pivotal on the biggest stage.

The goal also saw Mané reach a historic milestone, becoming the first player since 2010 to be directly involved in 20 goals at the Africa Cup of Nations, with a remarkable tally of 11 goals and nine assists.

Egypt attempted a late response, pushing forward in the closing moments and registering their first effort on target in stoppage time through Omar Marmoush. However, the chance came too late to alter the outcome.
