FOUR SUSPECTED robbers, believed to have been behind a series of violent attacks at Kunsu and surrounding communities in the Ashanti Region, have been arrested by the police.

The suspects, according to the police, are Yahaya Siedu alias ‘Diamond’, 34; Atta Israel alias ‘Abode3/Stone’, 32; Victor Gyan alias ‘City Boy’, 26, and Stanley Wiafe Akanten alias ‘Figo’, 30, who are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

The suspects, reportedly, embarked on a successful robbery expedition in Kunsu, where they robbed gold concentrates, cash and other valuables from their victims on December 7, 2025, and went into hiding.

Addressing the media at a press briefing yesterday, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osei Akoto Arthur, said the arrests followed sustained intelligence-led operations by the command.

He disclosed that items retrieved from the suspects include two pump-action guns, 22 BB cartridges, five mobile phones—one of which belongs to a complainant—and an amount of GH¢5,400 in cash.

According to DCOP Arthur, investigations revealed that the suspects, together with two accomplices who are currently on the run, attacked a mining site at Kunsu on December 7, 2025. During the operation, the gang allegedly assaulted one Kingsley Asare and made away with gold, cash, and mobile phones.

“They carried out this robbery at a mining site and stole gold valued at hundreds of cedis, in addition to cash and phones,” he stated.

DCOP Arthur further revealed that the suspects admitted their involvement during interrogation and would soon be arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.

In a press statement, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs Unit, Ashanti Regional Police Command, said the suspects were arrested on January 21, 2026.

“The suspects were arrested on January 21, 2026 at about 10:00 p.m. by personnel of the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit, Kumasi, in collaboration with officers from the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Directorate (NOD), Police Headquarters, Accra, following intelligence-led operations at Kunsu in the Ashanti Region.

“One of the firearms, a Pardus shotgun, was confirmed to have been stolen during the robbery incident on December 7, 2025 along the Kunsu–Mankranso road,” DSP Ahianyo disclosed in the report.

The suspects, he indicated, have admitted to conspiring to rob miners of cash, gold concentrate, and other valuables, adding that “They are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.”

“The Ashanti Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to maintaining peace, safety, and security in the region,” he said.

He assured residents of Kunsu and the wider Ashanti Region of the police command’s commitment to ensuring maximum security, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects still at large.
