The National Mosque has hosted the 4th National Mosque Quran Competition in a celebration of faith, knowledge, and unity aimed at promoting Islamic values among the youth.
The competition, which brought together Muslim youth groups, was supported by the HUDAI Foundation, Jil Al Quran, Qatar Charity, and TINASCO.
This year’s edition recorded a significant increase in participation, particularly from the Northern Region and Kumasi, as well as various communities across the Greater Accra Region.
Organisers said the growing number of participants reflects rising interest among young Muslims in Quranic memorisation and recitation, as well as the expansion of Quranic education initiatives nationwide.
The 2026 competition was structured into five categories designed to accommodate participants of different ages and levels of Quranic memorisation.
The first category, open to participants aged 15 years and below, required memorisation from Surat Al-Mujadalah to Surat An-Nas, covering three Juz. Winners received cash prizes of GH¢500 for first place, GH¢300 for second place, and GH¢200 for third place.
The second category, for participants aged 18 years and below, required memorisation from Surat Al-Ahqaf to Surat An-Nas, covering five Juz. Cash prizes included GH¢800 for first place, GH¢500 for second place, and GH¢300 for third place.
Participants aged 20 years and below competed in the third category, which covered memorisation from Surat Yaseen to Surat An-Nas, amounting to eight Juz. Winners in this category received GH¢1,000 for first place, GH¢800 for second place, and GH¢500 for third place.
The fourth category, which was opened to participants aged 22 years and below, required memorisation from Surat Al-Ankabut to Surat An-Nas, covering ten Juz. Cash prizes were GH¢1,500 for first place, GH¢1,000 for second place, and GH¢800 for third place.
The highest level of the competition was the open category, which required memorisation from Surat Al-Kahf to Surat An-Nas, covering 15 Juz, and was open to participants of all ages. Winners received GH¢2,000 for first place, GH¢1,500 for second place, and GH¢1,000 for third place.
In addition to the cash awards, certificates of recognition were presented to the top five finalists in each category to acknowledge their dedication and effort.
The competition began with regional qualification rounds held in several communities, including Nima and surrounding areas, followed by events in the Madina and Lakeside communities. These preliminary rounds culminated in the grand public finals held at the National Mosque.
