A Scene during the exercise
The Obaapa Fatimah Amoadu Foundation (OFAF) has taken a proactive step towards improving the health of people in the Ekumfi Constituency in the Central Region. In view of this, the Foundation organised a free health screening exercise as part of the Ghana Month celebration for residents.
The health screening, which took place at Ekumfi Ekrawfo, catered for hundreds of people and focused on non-communicable diseases that are often neglected.
Speaking with the Daily Guide, the Founder and President of the foundation, Fatimah Amoadu, explained that the people of Ekumfi are dear to her heart and that she will do everything within her power to improve their living condition.
“Ekumfi is my homeland; the constituents are my people. They show me love whenever the opportunity presents itself. I appreciate whatever they do for me; their prayers have taken me to the level I am at today. The least I can do for them is to reciprocate the love shown to me.
“I have made a personal commitment to serve them with all that I have. Quite recently, we graduated about 55 young girls who were sponsored to undergo artisanal training. Today, they are self-employed and are having positive impacts on their families and communities. Others are also benefiting from the health screening,” she stated.
Team lead and nutritionist at Saltpond District Hospital, Judith Ofori, revealed that the screening was timely, saying that a good number of the participants have high blood pressure which were undetected.
“Most of the people who were taken care of had high blood pressure, which they were not aware of. In fact, we have witnessed situations like this before, but the cases here are too many. We have given them medication, and some have been referred to bigger facilities for further diagnosis and treatment,” Mrs. Ofori told the media at the event.
The exercise highlighted the urgent need for regular health check-ups, particularly for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, which often go undetected. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Foundation for bringing healthcare services closer to the community, noting that the initiative would help many residents take early steps toward managing their health. The foundation reaffirmed its commitment to rolling out more interventions aimed at improving the wellbeing and livelihoods of people in the Ekumfi Constituency.
