A scene during the donation
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has donated clinical consumables to the New Tafo Government Hospital.
The items included boxes of surgical and gynaecological gloves, disinfectants, antiseptics, plasters and electronic pressure monitoring devices.
Presenting the items to the maternity ward, Mrs Twum Ampofo urged all women and staff of the hospital to always bless all newly-born babies in order to help them to become good citizens in the country as they grow up.
The Abuakwa North legislator added that nurses must advise mothers and parents to help build the capacity of the girl-child as it’s normally done for the male counterparts to foster gender equality.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the deputy midwife in-charge of the hospital, Attaa Afriyie Panin, thanked the MP and said the staff would put all the items into good use for safe maternal delivery.
She also mentioned shortage of staff as the main challenge of the ward and pleaded with authorities in charge to help employ enough hands to help, and also prayed the MP continues with such visits to the facility.
Earlier on during the day, there was a health walk from the Old Tafo junction to New Tafo lorry station, with the women in the constituency wielding placards with inscriptions such as ‘we’ve come a long way, but there is still work to do, stand with women’, ‘gender equality is not a woman issue, it’s a human issue, it affects all’ and many others.
The programmes formed part of this year’s International Women’s Day which was sponsored by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection under the theme: ‘Empowerment of Rural Women: A Tool for Sustainable Development in a Changing World of Work’.
