Why Actors Are Not Overly Rich -AJ Pounds

Actress Matilda Adjoa Densu, known in showbiz circles as AJ Pounds, has mentioned that Ghanaian actors are not overly rich because of the country’s economy.

She thinks Ghana as a country is not rich and so no-one expects actors to make huge sums from their work.

AJ, who was speaking in an interview with NEWS-ONE, believes that if the country has a buoyant economy the effect will trickle down to movie industry and, thereby, aid actors to make more money.

A developed economy with comfortable citizenry, she is sure, will engage in activities that will inure to the benefit of its movie industry.

The movie industry, she insisted, can’t develop in isolation. It is supported by general economic development.

“Financial resources in the country, I stand to be corrected, are limited and this affect the industry. There are gains, yes but who gets fully satisfied with earnings? You earn this and you want more,” she added.

The 27-year-old actress comes from Osino in the Eastern Region of Ghana. She has featured in a number of Kumawood movies.

“Right from childhood I loved acting and dancing so after senior high school, I joined HM Films in 2009. From there, I took part in the Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant by TV3 which took me off acting for a while. That was in 2011 and I represented the Eastern Region,” she explained her stint with the movies.

She described herself as a passionate and spirited lady who enjoys nature.

When NEWS-ONE asked her if she sees herself as being successful in an economy like Ghana’s, she added, “Success is a journey that never ends. For now I’m on the best train on that journey and success already engulfs me.”
