THE CHIEFS of Adansi Traditional Council (ATC) in the Ashanti Region have issued an angry denial following claims by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adansi-Asokwa Constituency, Kwabena Tahir Hammond, that he has their support for his re-election bid as New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP.
According to the chiefs, the MP made ‘outlandish’ claims when he spoke to the media about his chances of being re-elected in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the NPP.
The MP is said to have stated that he could not be unseated since he has the backing of the traditional council, which made him an ‘Nkosuohene’ (development chief) of the area because of his good works.
But the Paramount Chief of ATC, Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, said Mr. K. T. Hammond’s claims could not be true.
Speaking to the media at his palace, the Adansihene accused the MP of openly peddling falsehood and expressed the ATC’s utmost anger over what they called an attempt to draw them into partisan politics of the NPP.
According to him, Mr. Hammond had visited the palace only once (in 2017) since he became the paramount chief in 2015 when the MP accompanied President Akufo-Addo to the area.
“Since then, he has not visited me or the palace, let alone honour invitations extended to him for programmes, including the Obuasi redevelopment project,” the paramount chief said.
