Osaberima Ateabisa Kantinka Pobi Asumaning I
The Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan of Asamankese has called on the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, to provide lasting solution to the protracted chieftaincy disputes over the installation of the Divisional Chief for Asamankese Traditional Area.
The call was made yesterday during a press conference.
The Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan of Asamankese, in a letter signed and issued on January 16, 2023 to former President Nana Akufo-Addo and copied to some state institutions including the Minister of the Interior, Council of State, the Attorney General among others over the issue, did not receive the necessary response as expected, the clan said.
Following the petition, the then Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mr. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, in response to the petition on April 14, 2023, assured the family of government’s readiness to bring a closure to the matter while calling on them to exercise restraint in order not to breach peace in the area.
But the Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan of Asamankese, in a statement signed and issued on March 10, 2025 by the Abusuapayin, Akwasi Asare, said all efforts to address the issue has still not yielded the desired outcome despite resolution by the Koforidua High Court and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council for the feuding families to recognise S. K. Boadu, who was installed with the stool name Osabarima Ateabisa Kentinka Pobi Asomaning.
It said the Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan complied with all the hearings and determinations of the chieftaincy matter at both the High Court, the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council’s Judicial Committee at Kyebi.
It stated that “after winning all the cases concerning this Chieftaincy rift at the High Court and at the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council’s Judicial Committee, it was clear for our family to do the necessary consultations to nominate a candidate and enstool through the proper Akan (Akyem Abuakwa and Akwamu) customs and rituals.”
But according to the Abusuapayin, the Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan comprising those from Akwatia, Kwamang and Asamankese endorsed S. K. Boadu, who was then chief of Aworasa, to be elevated to the status of Asamankese Divisional Chief due to his hard work and how he was able to bring development to the Aworasa community and people.
“Per the overwhelming endorsement given to S. K. Boadu (Nana Aworasa) by the Royal Akua Korang–Abrade Akwamu Clan members of Asamankese, Akwatia and Kwaman, all the necessary arrangements and provisions were made to enstool him as the Osabarima of the Asamankese Division of the Akyem-Abuakwa State.
“After enstooling S. K. Boadu as the Divisional Chief of Asamankese, he was given the stool name and title Osabarima Ateabisa Kentinka Pobi Asomaning. After the enstoolment and installation of Osabarima Ateabisa Kentinka Pobi Asomaning, all the necessary rituals to be observed were religiously performed to then take over the palace,” it stated.
It mentioned that while at the palace, purported National Security officials ransacked the palace paving the way for the person who lost all the cases at the High Court, the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and the Okyeman Judicial Committee to parade himself as the Osabarima of the Asamankese Division of Akyem Abuakwa State.
It further pointed that, in the face of what the family described as ‘illegality’, the family presented many petitions to the immediate past political administration to ensure that all the judgments given to the family following disagreement over who becomes the chief were executed by the bodies which passed them.
“As a Royal family, we cannot wait to see the youth visiting Asamankese residents with violence, mayhem and the destruction of lives and properties, hence we kindly call on you to bring parties to order and ask all the Judicial bodies which gave judgments in our family’s favour to execute these judgments.
“We know President Mahama is resetting Ghana, and the Chieftaincy institution is an integral part of this resetting Ghana agenda. We count on you as a matter of urgency to call this matter up for final determination for peace and tranquility to prevail in Asamankese,” parts of the statement read.
