Dr. Yaw Adutwum handing over the donation to a representative of the traders
Former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwi in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has extended a helping hand to the victims of the devastating fire that ravaged the Adum Blue Light Market on March 21, 2025.
Dr. Adutwum, who visited the site to express his condolences to the traders yesterday, described the scene as heartbreaking.
He lamented how years of hard work and investment by the traders had been destroyed in the inferno.
“I am saddened to see how years of struggle by the traders to build their businesses had gone down the drain as a result of the inferno,” Dr. Adutwum said.
“This underscores the need for sustained fire safety education in markets and public places as a country to prevent a recurrence of such devastating disasters going forward,” he added.
During his visit, Dr. Adutwum made a generous donation of GH¢100,000 and 200 bags of cement to support the rebuilding efforts at the market.
He emphasised the importance of providing immediate assistance to the traders to help them recover from the loss and continue their livelihoods.
“It is my conviction, as a Member of Parliament from the Ashanti Region, to contribute my widow’s mite to ameliorate the impact on the businesses of the victims, who require all the needed support to get back on their feet,” Dr. Adutwum said.
The MP encouraged the affected traders to remain resilient, advising them to work closely with relevant authorities as they rebuild.
He also reassured them of his continuous support in the coming months.
“God will come through for all those who have lost their only source of livelihood, especially those taking care of their wards. Keep being strong for your children, and they will make you proud in the future. We will also keep supporting you in the best way possible,” he added.
His visit and donation have sparked widespread speculation about his political future, with many hinting that he may contest the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in upcoming elections.
