African Movies Lack Quality- Actress

Flora Yayra Dentsui

Celebrated Ghanaian actress Flora Yayra Dentsui, has expressed a need for African movie makers to lift up their game to rock with the best in the international scene.

According to her, even though the African continent has a lot of potentials in movie making, industry players are not really taking advantage of it.

She said, Africa movie producers and scriptwriters must improve their stories and make them universal so that other people in other countries can relate to them.

She added that a few bigwigs in Hollywood in America only hear about African movies but they don’t even pay attention to it because of its poor quality.

She hinted that a lot people in Europe, Asia and America want to watch Africa movies but due to its poor quality and bad story line they hardly watch them.

“Myself, I appreciate everything that is being done within Nollywood Kumawood and Africa as a whole, but I can’t watch some of the African movies because of the poor quality. But at the same time, I hear the movies sell profitably on the local market”.

She stressed “The audiences here in Africa really appreciate these movies. But if we want to cross over into the international market, then we should be able do great stories. Don’t get me wrong”.

She however, disclosed her plans of organizing series of workshops and seminars in the country to train up and coming movies stars as well as upgrade the skills of those already in the industry.

The workshop which will be organized early next year will put in place mechanisms that will help to promote the movie industry in Ghana and Africa on the international market.

The workshop is expected to provide concrete guidelines to marketing African movies internationally.
