George Kwame Aboagye
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ahanta West in the Western Region, George Kwame Aboagye, has passed on.
Even though the cause of the death was not immediately known, DAILY GUIDE gathered that Mr. Aboagye, a former NDC MP who was staging a comeback, passed on yesterday after a short illness.
According to sources, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC) under Prof. John Evans Atta Mills’s government died at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital where he was on admission.
The Western Regional Secretary of the NDC, Joseph Nelson, told DAILY GUIDE that he also heard rumours about the sad story but said the party was yet to contact the family members for official confirmation.
Mr. Aboagye became the MP for Ahanta West in 2012 after snatching the seat from the then NPP MP for the area, Samuel Johnfiah.
However, the late Aboagye lost the seat to the current NPP MP for Ahanta West, Lawyer Kojo Kum, in the 2016 general election.
He contested the NDC primaries in Ahanta West for the 2020 parliamentary election and won.
During a keenly contested parliamentary primaries held at Agona Nkwanta in August last year, Mr. Aboagye secured 533 votes to beat his competitors, Ebenezer Kofi Aidoo, a Marketing Manager for Medeama Sporting Club, who had 321 votes, and Ebenezer Essien (current NDC Deputy Western Regional Communications Officer), who also managed to poll 294 votes.
