Akon and Tomeka Thiam
Global music star, Akon, is heading for divorce just days before what would have been his 29th wedding anniversary. His wife, Tomeka Thiam, filed court papers in Fulton County, Georgia, on September 11, 2025, citing irreconcilable differences.
According to People, Thiam is seeking joint legal custody of their daughter but wants primary physical custody, with visitation rights for Akon. She is also requesting spousal support while asking the court to deny any such claims from the singer.
The split comes as Akon, 51, continues to publicly defend polygamy, a practice he ties to his cultural heritage. In past interviews, he has acknowledged having nine children and admitted to focusing more on providing financially than attending family events, often relying on technology to stay connected.
Neither Akon nor Thiam has yet commented publicly on the divorce filing.
