Akufo-Addo Is Not Sleeping- Jessica Williams To FixTheCountry Conveners

Actress Jessica Williams has also responded to #fixthecountry campaigners saying President Akufo-Addo is working hard to solve the problems of Ghana.

She said the President is “not sleeping” as his political opponents have been propagating.

Last week, some activists on social media started the #fixthecountry campaign to get leaders to solve the country’s developmental needs.

This led to a huge debate about whether it is Ghana or the attitude of its citizens that needs to be fixed, which also gave birth to   hashtag FixYourAttitude campaign to retaliate the previous campaign. Both hashtags have since been trending.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, Jessica said the President hasn’t relented in his efforts to fix the country. Citizens, she indicated, have a role to play in the development of the country, hence they should play their part.

“It brings me so much joy to actually see the youth of Ghana coming together to achieve a common goal and also wanting the best for our dear nation, regardless their political affiliations. But there is a saying that charity begins at home. We all as individuals have a major role to play in the development and betterment of our dear nation Ghana (Both citizens and government) #fixyourself,” she wrote.

“We can never deny the fact that there are certain things or problems that need fixing in this country #fixthecountry. Ghana is a developing country which is also still recovering from the terrible hit from COVID-19 let’s not forget that fact.

“His Excellency @nakufoaddo is definitely not sleeping neither is he paying deaf ears to our cries. Can he solve all of Ghana’s problems within his eight years term? No, he can’t. Can he fall short in certain areas along the line? Yes, because he’s human. But trust me, he is working 24hrs round the clock for the betterment of Ghana #nanaisfixingit, it’s rather unfortunate we cannot see the progress as fast as we want to,” she continued.

“The fact that I exercised my civil right like every other Ghanaian by declaring my political stand doesn’t mean I won’t add my voice to a worthy course that may benefit Ghana as a whole. But I only have a problem when some people choose to politicise such issues. To my fellow celebrities who are championing the course #fixthecountry, kudos. But I just hope and pray that it is coming from a genuine and sincere place,” she added.
