President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will from today, Friday 21st October 2022 to Sunday, 23rd October 2022 begin a three-day working visit to the Eastern Region.
He will use the opportunity to commission completed projects, inspect ongoing ones and interact with traditional authorities of the area.
President Akufo-Addo will start the tour by attending the official opening of the NPP National Executives and Directors Training and Orientation Conference at Rock City in the Abetifi constituency and hold an interview session on Radio.
He will then proceed to Nkawkaw to inspect the construction of the Nkawkaw-Abirem-Ofoase-Akim Oda road project.
President Akufo-Addo will later pay a courtesy call on the Chief of Ofoase, inspect the construction of the Ofoase-Ayirebi Agenda 111 Hospital Project and depart to Akyem Asuboa in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency to inspect a similar project there.
Day Two of the tour will begin with the commissioning of a 1D1F Beverage Factory, a 24-Unit Classroom Block at St. Martins SHS, as well as an accommodation complex inside the Nsawam Camp Prison all in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency.
On Saturday, he will commission a Beer Factory under the 1D1F at Nsawam, a Dormitory block at St. Martins, then move to Kwabeng and Abomosu respectively to commission the STEM Project and a road inspection.
He will proceed to Kwabeng to inspect work on agenda 111 hospital project and the Buntaa Farms, follow by the commissioning of the Model STEM Senior High School and the Abomosu bridge constructed by First Sky Limited, as well as an inspection of the Abomosu Polyclinic in Atiwa West.
The final day of the President’s tour will begin in the Abuakwa South constituency with the inauguration of the Archdeaconry at St. Mark Anglican church in Kyebi.
He will proceed to the Yiadom Hwedie Palace in Koforidua to pay a courtesy call on the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, and commission a 24-Unit Classroom Block at Pentecost Senior High School.
He will commission the newly constructed New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in Koforidua to end the tour of the region.
Projects
Meanwhile, ahead of the President, the Eastern Regional Director of Communications, Evan Osei Yeboah in a statement has listed numerous projects undertaken by the ruling government since 2017.

NPP ER COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTORATE
LIST OF MONUMENTAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS EXECUTED BY THE NPP GOVERNMENT IN EASTERN REGION
It’s a no brainer to conclude that the current NPP government has invested massively in infrastructure projects more than any government since independence.
As President Akufo-Addo takes his working visit to the Eastern Region between 21-23rd October, 2022, the Eastern Regional Communications Directorate would want to give an honest account of the many infrastructure projects that the government has executed in the region.
The account is limited to projects executed in the area of Education, Factories, Health, Sports and Roads between 2017 and 2021.
EDUCATION
The government has undertaken hundreds of infrastructure projects encompassing classroom blocs, dormitory blocs, ICT facilities etc at all levels (Basic, Senior High and Tertiary) across the region. Below is a breakdown of the projects;
1. Basic Level
At the Basic Level, the government has constructed a total of 127 projects made up of 41 KG blocks, 12 3-unit Classroom blocks. 51 6-unit classroom blocks, 22 toilet facilities and 1 rehabilitation work.
2. Senior High Level
The government through 3 major infrastructure development initiatives has constructed a total of 186 projects in the Eastern region
a. Under the GETfund Emergency SHS Project, a total of 172 projects have been executed. They include 7 3-unit classroom blocks, 21 6-unit classroom blocks, 32 12-unit classroom blocks, 37 single dormitory blocks, 16 2-storey dormitory blocks, 3 3-storey dormitory blocks, 31 toilet facilities, 16 other structures (ICT labs, library etc) and 9 Rehabilitation works.
b. Under the Secondary Education Improvement Project – Additional Financing (SEIP-AF), a total of 9 projects have been done in the Eastern Region. They include 2 3-unit classroom blocks, 3 6-unit classroom blocks, 1 6-seater WC Toilet block with overhead water tank support and borehole, 2 library blocks and 1 ICT block.
c. Under the Kuwait Funded Projects, a total of 5 projects have been executed in the Eastern Region. They include 1 12-unit classroom block and 4 single storey dormitory blocks.
3. Establishment of New STEM Senior High Schools
The government has constructed 9 brand new STEM SHS across the country. Eastern region was fortune to have one built in Abomosu in the Atiwa West District.
The brand new SHS has ultramodern facilities like Administration Block, 2No. Science Block, 2-Storey Dormitory Block, 3-Storey Dormitory Block and Library Block, Sick Bay etc.
4. Construction of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics Education (STEAM) Centers.
The government selected 20 SHS to ungraded their infrastructure to meet international STEAM standards. Eastern region was fortune to have two out of the 20. Koforidua Secondary Technical School and Abuakwa Senior High School were the beneficiaries.
5. Enhance and Upgrading of Technical And Vocational Education and Training Centers in Ghana (VACE)
Kibi Senior High School was part of the tens of SHS that were selected to benefit from this program. Projects executed in the school under this program includes Computer building, Electrical and Electronic Workshop Building, Rehabilitation of Building Construction, Basic Mechanical Workshop Building etc.
6. Establishment of TVET Centers of Excellence
The government has constructed 20 TVET Center of Excellence across the country. Eastern region had one constructed in Anyinam in the Atiwa East district.
The Center has Food Processing – Fruit and Vegetable Line; Electrical Installations; Garment and Tailoring; Woodworking; Information Communication Technology (ICT) – Coding and programing.
7. Tertiary Level
a. Phase II of University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) in Somanya.
In August 2020, President Akufo-Addo cut sod for the construction of the Phase II of UESD. The project cost is €45,575,000 and has the following facilities commissioned: lecture Hall for School of Natural and Environmental Science; multi-purpose auditorium for School of Natural and Environmental Science; laboratory building for School of Agriculture and Agro-Entrepreneurship Development; faculty offices (administration block) for School of Agriculture and Agro-Entrepreneurship Development; Vice Chancellor’s residency; Pro-Vice Chancellors’ residency; and key officers’ residencies.
b. University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS)
In May 2022, President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the construction of the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS), in Bunso, in the Eastern Region.
The $90 million project when completed which will focus on satisfying human resource demands from domestic industries.
INDUSTRY/ FACTORIES
Under government’s flagship initiative dubbed One District One Factory (1D1F), a total of 278 factories are at various stages of completion nationwide. In the Eastern Region specifically, about 20 factories are at various stages of competition.
However, this account is limited to completed ones listed below;
1. Akro Farms; the biggest automated poultry farm in West Africa located in the Akuapem North municipality and has created 1.025 direct and indirect jobs
2. Shoe Fabriek Limited; capable of producing 800 pairs of shoes per day, including security boots. Located in Akuapem North municipality and has created 144 jobs.
3. Kete Krachi Timber Recovery Limited; Salvaging Tree stumps, processing into dawn timber and charcoal. Located in Asuogyaman District
4. Glofert Ghana; Bleeding and bagging of fertilizer. Located in Kyekyewere in the Ayensuano District.
5. Brompton Portfolio Limited; Production of paper products. Located in the Nsawam Prison.
6. Maagrace Garment Industries Limited: Fabrics sewn into garment for export. Located at Effiduase in the New Juaben North Municipality.
7. Shaba Enterprise; Manufacturing of gas coolers, roofing sheets, nails, fruits juice, water, cooking utensils and plastic bottles. Located in Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West municipality.
8. Rockcare Beverages Limited; Organic beverage production and water. Located in the Suhum municipality
9. Akuapem Gold Afro-Processing Limited; Avocado processing. Located in Nkronso in the Abuakwa South municipality
10. New KAT Food Ghana Limited: Food processing company located in Brekuso in the Akuapem South Municipality.
11. Kwahu Roots and Fruit Limited; Production and Processing of Ginger. Located in Nkawkaw.
12. Pam Pharmaceuticals Limited; Manufacturing and Distribution of Pharmaceuticals. Located in Nsawam
13. Appau Farms Limited; Poultry procession company located in Oframase in The Kwahu West Municipality.
HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE
1. Eastern Regional Hospital; the phase I of the construction of a two hundred and eighty-five (285) bed facility, out of the total capacity of six hundred (600) beds is under construction. Once fully completed, it will be fitted with the requisite teaching and learning facilities.
2. In April, 2020, Parliament approved a loan facility of 79 million Euros for the construction of some Eleven 40-bed hospitals and 1 Polyclinics. Out of the 11 hospitals, Eastern region had 5 that are being constructed at Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Adukrom, and Achiase.
3. Agenda 111; Under this government’s flagship program, the beneficiary districts in Eastern region are;
a. Akyemansa District – Ofoase
b. Asuogyaman District- Atimpoku
c. Ayensuano District – Coaltar
d. Birim South District- Akim Swedru
e. Kwahu Afraim Plains South – Tease
f. Upper West Akim District- Adeiso
g. Asene Manso Akroso – Manso
h. Atiwa District – Abomosu
4. Construction of a Trauma Hospital at Anyinam in the Atiwa East
5. Retooling and re-equipping of the Kwahu-Atibie Hospital, part of a €40 million contract award to Messrs Contracta Construzion Italia S.R.L. for the retooling and equipping of four selected health facilities in the Eastern Region.
6. Drone Medical Delivery Infrastructure; the first drone center for distribution of essential medical supplies was built in the Suhum municipality
SPORTS FACILITIES
Sports infrastructure development has been one of the major focuses of this government, with investment of millions of dollars in varied projects across the country.
In the Eastern Region, the following infrastructure projects are being executed to promote sporting activists:
1. Koforidua Multi-Purpose Youth Development Center. This is part of the 10 Multipurpose Youth Resource Centers being constructed across the country. Phase one (1) components of the project include:
i. A FIFA standard football pitch with a seating capacity between 5,000 to 10,000.
ii. Eight-lane athletic track.
iii. Handball, basketball, volleyball and table tennis courts.
IV. Hostel facilities at selected centers.
V. Gymnasium, ICT Centre, youth clinic, modern restaurant, entrepreneurship and counseling centres….among others.
The phase two include:
i. Road networks to the centers.
ii. The inner and outer perimeters and accessibility for Persons with Disabilities.
2. Astroturf Projects
The government has constructed about 80 astroturfs across the country. Eastern Region has astroturfs in the following areas;
