This year’s edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Festival is scheduled to climax with a three-day music celebration, from Friday to Sunday, August 28 to 30, 2020.
Dubbed the “VGMA Weekend”, the three-day music festival which is expected to celebrate Ghanaian culture, vivacious music and iconic artistes, will take place virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is being organized by Charterhouse to reward deserving artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution to Ghana’s music industry.
The awards scheme has over the years grown into the most-anticipated event on the country’s entertainment calendar.
In all, 30 awards will be presented at two exclusive events on Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29, at 8:00pm each night.
Some artistes tipped to win awards at this year’s event include Sarkodie, Samini, Kofi Kinaata, Kelvyn Boy, Kuami Eugene, Diana Hamilton, Celestine Donkor, Sista Afia, Adina, KiDi and Joyce Blessing.
They added that on August 30, the frontline workers of Covid-19 would be honoured with the VGMA Covid-19 Heroes Concert, also starting at 8:00pm.
A number of top Ghanaian music stars such as EL, KiDi, Adina, Kuame Eugene, Kofi Kinaata, Medikal, Kwesi Arthur, Akwaboah, King Promise, Eno Barony, Strongman, Celestine Donkor, Ras Kuuku, Efya, Kofi Mole and Epixode among others have been invited to perform at the Heroes Concert.
According to the organizers, unlike previous years, there shall be no ticket sales. Attendance shall be strictly by invitation.
The virtual events will be broadcast live on TV3, Sound City TV, The Base TV, Rok Ghana on DSTV & GOtv in Africa, and worldwide via the internet on MTV Base and on Ghana Music Awards social media pages 8:00pm each night.
