Afia Schwarzenegger. INSET: President Akufo-Addo
Controversial showbiz personality, Afia Schwarzenegger, has praised President Akufo-Addo’s posture not to allow gay and lesbian activities in Ghana.
She described it as a good thing for Ghanaians.
Last week, the President reportedly ordered the shutdown of an office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) group at Tesano in Accra.
On Saturday, he also indicated that legislation of same-sex marriage to become lawful is not a matter he will ever consider under his presidency.
“I have said it before, and let me stress it again, that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legal,” he was quoted to have said during the installation of the 2nd Archbishop of the Anglican Church held in Asante Mampong on Saturday.
Afia, who was speaking about the closure of the LGBTQI office, has asked those who have been calling for freedom for the group to engage in homosexual activities to cut the President slack – he has a country to govern.
She suggested that they should allow the President to focus his attention on his ‘Better Ghana Agenda’ and not people’s sexual preference.
According to her, monies used in setting up the building of the LGBTQI Accra office could be used to purchase more beds for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
She also mentioned that if advocates are busy demanding the rights of homosexuals, then weed smokers should be allowed to smoke weed as well.
“We should focus on governing this country,” she indicated.
On Sunday, she also shared another video praising Akufo-Addo’s position on gay and lesbian marriage on Saturday. “Nana Addo said you people should find somewhere and sit so we govern this country,” she told LGBTQI community in the video.
