Management of Alpha Lotto addressing the media yesterday
MANAGEMENT OF Alpha Lotto Limited has indicated that it does not operate the short code 959 intended for the National Lottery Authority (NLA)’s 5/90 games, even though it is licenced to operate the VAG 5/90 fixed odds games.
“Alpha Lotto Limited, per its NLA licence, operates its own games under Act 844 (2012) on its independent platform and marketed through *896#. Alpha Lotto Limited’s operation is fully compliant with NLA’s registration and licencing conditions under NLA Licence Certificate QR Code – NLA_ALL_1_20 (signed by NLA Director-General, dated July 1, 2020) under VAG ACT, Act 844 (2012),” it said.
Management wishes to state that under the terms of registration and licencing of private sector operators for VAG Lottery Operations, licenced operators are required to market their lottery products using digital devices (end to end), as NLA has banned the physical writing of lottery from booklets or paper in order for NLA to electronically monitor VAG lottery licensees’ operations,” it added.
The company was reacting to an advertisement lately by the Public Relations Unit of the NLA published in the online media and repeated in the print media that allegedly categorised it under fraudulent or illegal lottery operators.
Management of the company explained that Alpha Lotto Limited was one of the five legally registered private lotto operators duly licenced to operate VAG Lottery under Act 844(2012). It continued that it received its licence following two-month NLA board-room sanctioned negotiations led by the Director General between NLA and the Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) in October 2019, to restore the licences of private sector operators, who previously held VAG lottery licences before the take-over of the VAG lottery operations by the NLA.
It continued that following the conclusion or negotiations at Alisa Hotel between October and December 2019, Alpha Lotto Limited and four other lotto companies were adjudged to have met the criteria set by the NLA, and were duly licensed to operate VAG lotto. This was announced officially at a public ceremony captured by the Ghanaian traditional and online media on the January 14, 2020 and published on January 15, 2020 under the auspices of the board of directors and the Director General of NLA.
Alpha Lotto Limited is therefore not fraudulent or illegal as alleged by the publication.
