Amidu’s Anti-Corruption Stance From Infancy

Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim

The Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, has described the Special Prosecutor nominee, Martin Amidu, as an independent minded person, who is fierce in his fight against corruption.

According to him, if the Special Prosecutor nominee continues in the same spirit with which he has been fighting and exposing corrupt acts, then his office will be one that will save Ghana from the hands of corrupt duty bearers.

The NPP Regional Chairman made the point in a statement he issued on behalf of the Regional Secretariat and the people of the Upper East Region to thank President Nana Akufo-Addo for appointing Martin Amidu to the high office of the Special Prosecutor.

“Lawyer Martin Amidu is known to be independent minded; very fierce in his fight against corruption. He fought his own party in government against all odds, in order to protect his uncompromising principles, even to the detriment of his life and job.

Martin Amidu hails from the Upper East Region and I can vividly recount how we grew up in the same neighbourhood of Daduri in the Bawku Municipality. I knew Mr. Amidu for his stance on truth since his childhood days. I wasn’t surprised when his childhood attributes blossomed and he has attained the accolade ‘Citizen Vigilante,” Chairman Murtala said.

The appointment of Martin Amidu came as a surprise to many, especially when the New Patriotic Party has many “legal brains” who can occupy the position, as well as many other neutral Ghanaians who can equally occupy the position.

The Upper East Regional NPP Chairman believes that, the decision of the President confirms his boldness and willingness to fight corruption and to fulfill his campaign promises.
