Franklin Fifi Fiavi Kwetey
Some of our people in political leadership speak with double tongue, making it hard for the electorate to have faith and trust in the electoral process.
One of such characters is Franklin Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the current General Secretary of the NDC, who has refused to learn from experience and history.
After suffering ignominiously after he was exposed in Parliament in 2009 for making unsubstantiated claims about former President Kufuor, he is leading the NDC to continue to smear their political opponents, the NPP government, especially close associates of President Akufo-Addo.
Today, he is saluting former President Kufuor for distinguishing himself better than President Akufo-Addo. Fifi Kwetey, who in 2016 said, “drug money that flowed freely in Ghana, masked an extremely ailing economy under President Kufuor.”
Then fast forward to 2024, when in an interview with a television channel he praised President Kufuor’s government as being far better than the Akufo-Addo regime. “I think, the Kufuor NPP, in opposition, we basically said that they were really not a very good government. But if you compare Kufuor’s government with the current one that we have, the alteration of NPP is the worst in my view, that we have ever had. It is also the most desperate.”
We have always insisted that the NDC cannot be trusted in the governance process, and it has always adopted the strategy of throwing dust into the eyes of the public just for the sake of power. Presently, another election cycle has dawned and the same people who smeared the NPP in 2008 have started again, this time, going to bed with a document called “AgyapadeƐ” to assassinate the character of President Akufo-Addo and his close associates.
This time, AgyapadeƐ has become an euphemism for state capture to present the NPP leaders as greedy and looters of state assets, without the facts just because there is an election to be won.
The NDC, in particular, has studied the psyche of the Ghanaian and come to the conclusion that it is easier to play the victim of bad government policies rather than put policies before the people for a national conversation.
We are not surprised that John Mahama is running from a debate with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The matter is simple. Although the NDC and its leaders have always blamed the Vice President for our current economic challenges, John Mahama is afraid of a faceoff with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to substantiate the claims by Sammy Gyamfi that the Number Two man is a liar.
Just like they did in 2008, when they printed fake bank accounts of then President Kufuor and appointees which the NDC published widely to cause disaffection for the government. And since the NDC was just engaged in a smear campaign, its leaders who appeared in Parliament to be vetted had to bow in shame.
The NDC never learns anything. Thus, the NDC has found a tool in the AgyapadeƐ document to repeat its propaganda campaign against the NPP, describing them as looters of the state assets.
We have asked Ghanaians to be wary of the NDC because of their dangerous and desperate attempt to regain power. If a section of the public are gullible, majority of them are discerning now, not forgetting a similar claim in 2004 that the then President Kufuor had initiated the Great Ashanti Project to make all other ethnic groups subservient to the Ashantis.
