Herod Cobbinah
The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has allegedly warned the NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Akontombra, Herod Cobbinah, who is contesting this year’s parliamentary election as an independent candidate to desist from using NDC paraphernalia.
He has, therefore, called on supporters of the party in the Akontombra Constituency to arrest the MP if they find him with any NDC paraphernalia ahead of the December 7 elections.
There has been turmoil in the NDC in the Akontombra Constituency of the Western Region since the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area decided to contest the 2016 elections as an independent candidate.
Herod Cobbinah lost the NDC parliamentary primary last year to one Kenneth Yeboah.
He took the decision to go independent after some NDC members in the constituency, who believed that the party’s last year primary, was fraught with anomalies mounted pressure on him.
A suit was filed by three members of the party at the Sefwi Wiawso High Court, seeking to nullify the primary that elected Kenneth Yeboah as the NDC candidate, but to no avail.
The MP decided to take his destiny into his own hands to find his way back to Parliament come 2017.
However, speaking during the campaign launch of the NDC parliamentary candidate for Sefwi Akontombra, Kenneth Yeboah over the weekend, the NDC chief scribe tasked the Western Regional branch of the party to immediately retrieve all properties belonging to the party from Mr Cobbina.
According to him, since the MP has decided to contest the elections as an independent candidate, it would be wrong for him to keep any belongings of the party, which may be required by the NDC in the December 7 elections.
“I’m here to announce to everybody that Herod Cobbinah is no longer an NDC member; you cannot decide to leave the party and keep its properties.
“I’m asking the regional executives to take back any party property, which is in the possession of Herod Cobbinah. That is not all, if you see him with any NDC T-shirts, posters or anything with party colours, please cause his arrest immediately,” Asiedu Nketia is quoted as saying.
