Asanteman Funeral Ban Starts Today

The late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III

STARTING FROM today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, a ban has been imposed on funeral rites in Kumasi and all other parts of the Asante Kingdom.

The directive from the Manhyia Palace, the official seat of the Asante Kingdom, is to pave the way for the burial of Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, the late Asantehemaa.

The deceased queen, who is the 14th Asantehemaa, is expected to be buried on Thursday, September 18, 2025 after laying in state from Sunday, September 14.

Baffuor Kantankrakyi, a linguist of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, announced the ban on funerals during the one-week observance of the deceased queen.

According to him, there should be total concentration on the burial (Dote Yie) of Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, hence the decision to ban all funerals in the Asante Kingdom.

The Asantehene’s linguist stated that traditional leaders and the public would have the chance to pay their last respects to Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III from September 15.

Baffuor Kantankrakyi said all business activities in Asanteman would come to a standstill on Thursday, September 18, as there is a ban on businesses on that day.

“We are all converging at the Manhyia Palace on that Thursday to take part in the burial service that would be organised for the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III.

“Because of that, all shops and business entities in Asanteman are to remain closed in reverence to the departed Asantehemaa,” Otumfuo’s linguist announced.

After the burial service, he said residents of Kumasi should remain indoors on Thursday evening as the queen would be buried at the Royal Mausoleum in Breman.
