Prosper Adjetey
The Ashaiman Circuit Court has sentenced an 18-year-old motor mechanic, Prosper Adjetey, to 10 years in prison with hard labour for stealing a mobile phone from a woman.
Adjetey, who resides on Monica Lane in Ashaiman, was found guilty of attacking 44-year-old factory worker and seamstress, GiftyDzomenor, on August 26, 2025.
The incident occurred around 9:20 p.m. when Dzomenor was returning from church. While on a call near Queens Hotel in Ashaiman Middle East, Adjetey forcefully snatched her Infinix phone valued at GH₵1,900. A struggle ensued as Dzomenor clung to his clothing, but he overpowered her and attempted to escape.
Her cries for help drew the attention of nearby residents, who chased down Adjetey. He was nearly lynched before being rescued by a police patrol team and taken into custody.
Investigations revealed that Adjetey had an accomplice who managed to escape and remains at large. Despite persistent questioning, Adjetey refused to disclose the identity of his partner in crime.
Delivering judgment, the court cited the seriousness of the offence in handing down the 10-year custodial sentence.
